Wiri Electric Multiple Unit Depot, Auckland
Auckland Transport’s Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) depot at Wiri provides maintenance services to all the Auckland’s electric trains. Gaia Engineers had been involved in the various stages of the EMU project since 2010 for the initial site formation works to the recently completed depot expansion work in 2019.
Gaia Engineers was engaged by KiwiRail as its geotechnical advisor in 2010 for the preparation of earthwork specification and Principal’s Requirements as well as geotechnical compliance monitoring for the land purchase and its site formation earthwork.
In 2011, Opus International Consultants (now WSP) engaged Gaia Engineers as its geotechnical consultant for the geotechnical development and railway formation design and construction observation for the EMU depot. The construction of the EMU depot was completed in 2013.
In 2017, Auckland Transport engaged Gaia Engineers as its geotechnical and civil engineers from concept to detailed design of site formation for the proposed EMU Depot expansion. This stage of works comprises design and construction observation of relocation of existing services, stormwater discharge, rail formation, earthwork and retaining walls. The construction of the EMU Expansion was completed in 2019.
