SH1 Transmission Gully

The Transmission Gully Project is a landmark infrastructure development in New Zealand, designed to enhance connectivity and improve transportation efficiency across the Wellington region. Gaia Engineers Ltd played a key role in this ambitious project, contributing cutting-edge engineering solutions that ensured earthquake resilience.

The new 27-kilometer, four-lane motorway crosses the seismically active districts of Wellington City, Porirua City, Upper Hutt City and Kapiti Coast District. It forms part of the Wellington Northern Corridor, offering safer, more reliable access for commuters and freight while reducing travel times.

Gaia Engineers lead the geotechnical design and management of all 26 bridge abutments and MSE retaining walls including 3 major gully crossings up to 250m long throughout design and construction phases of the project. The project involved RSE slopes and MSE walls up to 30m high as well as bridge foundation.
